What is a GAF Master Elite roofing contractor?

A GAF Master Elite roofing contractor is a roofer that holds the highest level of contractor certification from GAF, a major manufacturer of residential and commercial roofing materials. To earn it, a contractor must meet GAF’s requirements for licensing, insurance, training and customer satisfaction, then keep meeting them to stay certified.

GAF describes itself as the largest roofing manufacturer in North America. Its products include shingles, underlayment, leak barriers, ridge caps and low-slope roofing systems. Because so many roofs use its products, GAF trains and certifies contractors on how to choose and install them correctly. Icon Roofing holds the Master Elite certification.

How rare is GAF Master Elite certification?

GAF Master Elite certification is rare. GAF says roughly the top 2% of its contractors hold it. That means most roofers who install GAF products, including many who describe themselves as GAF certified, have not met the Master Elite standards. Icon Roofing is one of the contractors in the Valley that has.

Master Elite is not a one-time award. GAF reviews certified contractors on an ongoing basis, and a roofer has to keep meeting the requirements to keep the title. That review covers the business as well as the roofs: proper licensing, insurance coverage and how customers rate the work.

What are the GAF contractor certification levels?

GAF recognizes contractors at four levels. Authorized is the entry level. Certified shows advanced skills and a track record of proper installation. Master Elite is the top certification, with the strictest standards. President’s Club is a separate honor GAF gives to long-time Master Elite contractors for outstanding service and business operations.

GAF level What it tells you Can offer Golden Pledge?
Authorized Entry-level GAF recognition and a commitment to proper workmanship No
Certified Advanced skills and a proven installation track record No
Master Elite GAF’s top certification, held by about 2% of its contractors according to GAF Yes, when the system qualifies
President’s Club An added honor for long-time Master Elite contractors Yes, as Master Elite contractors

Icon Roofing holds Master Elite. President’s Club recognizes years of Master Elite performance, and it is a goal we are working toward.

What is the GAF Golden Pledge limited warranty?

The GAF Golden Pledge limited warranty is GAF’s top homeowner warranty, and only Master Elite contractors can offer it. When the roof system qualifies, it includes 50-year material coverage, 25-year workmanship coverage and a 40-point factory inspection of the completed roof. The exact terms come from GAF’s written warranty.

Most roof warranties cover either the materials or the labor. Golden Pledge covers both in one limited warranty from the manufacturer. Not every roof qualifies. The system has to use qualifying GAF products and pass GAF’s inspection. Ask your Roof Advisor whether your roof qualifies, and read the GAF warranty terms before you sign.

Why does Master Elite matter to a homeowner?

Master Elite matters because a roof is only as good as its installation. A Master Elite contractor has shown GAF that it picks the right products for each home and installs them to GAF’s standards. For you, that means less risk of installation mistakes, access to stronger warranty options and a manufacturer that keeps reviewing your roofer.

Here is what that looks like on your project:

  • Product choices matched to your roof style, the Arizona climate and your budget
  • Installation training on full GAF systems, including underlayment, leak barriers, ridge caps and ventilation
  • Access to the Golden Pledge limited warranty when the system qualifies
  • A contractor that GAF continues to review for licensing, insurance and customer satisfaction

In the Valley, extreme heat and UV age roofing materials fast, and monsoon winds test every edge and ridge. Correct ventilation, flashing and underlayment matter more here than in most places. See how this applies to Master Elite shingle roof replacement and new roof installation on a new build or addition.

How can you check Icon Roofing’s GAF status?

You can check Icon Roofing’s GAF Master Elite status on GAF’s own contractor directory. Search for Icon Roofing LLC or open our GAF Master Elite directory listing. You can also confirm our Arizona license, ROC# 333889 CR-42, with the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.

Checking both takes a few minutes, and it is worth doing with any roofer you are considering. A real Master Elite contractor will appear in the GAF directory under its legal business name.

Master Elite questions

Still unsure? Call (480) 427-7600 and a roof advisor will walk you through it.

Does every roof from a Master Elite contractor get the Golden Pledge warranty?

No. Golden Pledge is available only when the roof system qualifies. In general, that means a GAF shingle system with qualifying GAF accessories, installed by a Master Elite contractor and checked through GAF's inspection. Your Roof Advisor can tell you before you sign whether your project qualifies and which GAF limited warranty applies if it does not.

Is GAF Master Elite the same as GAF Certified?

No. GAF Certified is a lower level of GAF recognition. Master Elite is GAF's top contractor certification, with stricter requirements for licensing, insurance, training and customer satisfaction. GAF says only about 2% of its contractors are Master Elite, and only Master Elite contractors can offer the Golden Pledge limited warranty.

Does Master Elite certification apply to tile, foam or metal roofs?

Master Elite is a GAF certification, and GAF products are mostly shingle and low-slope systems. Golden Pledge coverage applies to qualifying GAF shingle systems. Tile, foam and metal roofs carry warranties from their own manufacturers plus our workmanship warranty. The training behind Master Elite still shapes how we install underlayment, flashing and ventilation on every roof type.

How does a roofer keep Master Elite status?

A roofer keeps Master Elite status by continuing to meet GAF's requirements. GAF reviews certified contractors over time, looking at licensing, insurance, training and customer satisfaction. A contractor that falls short can lose the certification. That ongoing review is one reason the title means more than a one-time badge on a website.
